Wind Tunnel Test of Drafting at Endurance Run Velocity

The aim of this study is to investigate and quantify the aerodynamics advantage, physiological performance advantage produced by pacemaker drafting in case long endurance running. experimental tests have been carried out a wind tunnel, at submaximal effort two runners done treadmill run test five minutes 4.72 m/s with same air velocity. By comparison parameters without drafting, decreasing due effect was obtained. A CFD simulation used analyze aerodynamic effects terms drag coefficient speed m/s. Results indicates that compared baseline (running alone), position show decrease (-9.73%) (-9.73%). This reduction also leads following parameters, as detected tests: oxygen consumption (-5.46%), metabolic power (-5.48%), energy cost (-7.31%), carbon dioxide (-7.40%), minute ventilation (-5.44%), HR (-0.60%), blood lactate concentration (-16.66%), RPE (-13.89%). demonstrate has significant on but variables highly medium trained athletes.
